West Coast Swing (Apr/May 2019)

Week 1: Basics and Beginner pattern
 
Swing (body flight) moving forward and moving backward
Step (straight leg, foot flat, directly under body weight)
Hip release on the straight leg to allow:
Swing free leg, gliding toe across the floor past the standing leg.
 
1) Basic Technique
Basic Walks Back with Triple Step 1 2 3 4 5&6
Basic Walks Forward with Triple Step 1 2 3 4 5&6
(Note that man starts back with left foot while lady starts forward right foot)
 
Week 2: Start basic patterns
 
2) Basic Pattern, repeat twice
Sugar Push Regular 1 2 3(tap) 4 5&6
Underarm Turn 1 2 3&4 5&6
 
Week 3: Overturn and leftside pass.
 
Overturn initiation. Lead: Lower (not rotate) wrist by straightening elbow.
Follow: As wrist is pushed down, spiral about 3/8 of a turn (not too far!)
Overturn recovery. Lead: Raise wrist; Follow: Spiral back to face partner.
 
3) Repeat twice

Week 4: Whip variations.
 
 Locked Whip, Rolling of the Arm, Whip Throwaway
(Lead: Ronde on 5.)
